September is National Gum Care Month. Teeth tend to get most of the attention when it comes to maintaining good oral health care; however, your gums are equally important. Without proper care, you could be at risk for developing periodontal disease. If our periodontist informs you that you have gum disease in Monroe, CT, then several treatments are available for you to choose from.
LANAP® Laser Protocol
Dr. Amato and his team are highly adept at laser dentistry, particularly the LANAP® laser protocol. This treatment has been approved by the FDA and is a much more manageable procedure for patients to go through. Using a high-tech, handheld laser, our periodontist is able to remove bacteria from periodontal pockets, cleaning the tissue. Since no sutures or cutting is involved, the tissue is able to heal much more quickly, and the recovery period is significantly reduced.
Pinhole Surgical Technique™
A common symptom of gum disease is gum recession of the gum tissue. This condition can make a patient’s teeth look longer, and can result in health issues if it is not handled effectively. In order to reduce the effects of recession, Dr. Amato offers the Pinhole Surgical Technique™. Special tools are used to create a small hole within the gums. Using special tools, Dr. Amato can maneuver the tissue into a more attractive position over the gums through these small holes. This allows patients’ smiles to look the way they did before periodontal disease occurred. The amount of discomfort felt afterward is minimal, and our periodontist will give you any extra pieces of advice to follow for the next few days to help your recovery.
